Introducing New Space Architecture

Class Q or Brand New?

The Class Q barn conversion legislation is a wonderful piece of planning policy that allows the conversion of agricultural buildings to a residential dwelling without usual justification requirements for a sustainable location. This ultimately means that converting a barn to a dwelling has never been easier, so long as the required criteria is met and the application is presented correctly.

We specialise in Class Q conversions here at New Space Architecture, and are experts in this field with a vast depth of knowledge of the legislation and wide experience across multiple local authorities in dealing with the process.

And that’s not the end of the story… Once a Class Q development has been granted it is possible to then re-apply for Full Planning Consent to demolish the existing building entirely and replace it with a brand new dwelling, not constrained to the regulations required under the original Class Q Approval.

Your Conversion

In essence, gaining Class Q consent can pave the way for you to build a new bespoke home, free from the existing barn form or any structural or design constraints. The replacement design simply needs to more positively contribute to the development and/or surroundings than the approved Class Q conversion.

This option should always be considered as a long-term goal for any barn conversion project as it has the potential to substantially increase the amenity and flexibility of your new home and here at New Space Architecture we have a track record of achieving such planning consents for these replacement dwellings.

So whether it’s ‘Class Q’ or ‘brand new’, whatever your conversion needs we’re with you every step of the way…

Testimonials

Our clients say it best

“May I take this opportunity of saying what a pleasure it has been working with you guys over the past 12 months. Your drawings/specifications and all round construction knowledge is to be commended. In fact, I would go as far as saying you are without doubt the best practice we deal with!”

Scott A

“We have had a fantastic experience with New Space Architecture. They really listened to what we were looking for as an outcome, pushed our thinking and came back with a brilliant design for our extension. What we loved is that they listened and helped us explore options for us to hit our budget without losing the overall design. Everyone who visits our home are simply amazed by the transformation. We would recommend New Space every time!”

Gary and Caron

“New Space Architecture were incredible, coming up with design ideas we simply hadn’t even considered! The whole design and planning process was stress-free and we couldn’t be happier with our extension.”

Russ L P

“My wife and I were incredibly impressed with the plans for our kitchen diner extension and in particular the way that Mitch listened to what we wanted and helped maximise the space available. Really, really impressed and I would thoroughly recommend!”

Ryan B

“I can’t recommend Mitch enough, he has been brilliant in the whole process and very patient throughout, always delivered on what he promised and at the timescale he said he would. Even when the process was not easy as we were dealing with Dartmoor National Park and in a conservation zone Mitch was always there to support me and we definitely couldn’t have done this without him.”

Amanda S

“We have used New Space Architecture twice, once for a loft extension and then again for a kitchen extension. They did a great job with both and would highly recommend them. Mitch is friendly, professional and works quickly. He was always available to talk to and amenable to suggestions and new ideas.”
