The Brief

To provide spacious and light filled open-plan living spaces to a formerly dark cob house

Our clients approached us with a brief of lots of light and a feeling of open space but being a cob house they were concerned that this could not be achieved. Working with a cob specialist engineer we were able to resolve the structural constraints and provide this incredible glazed double height sun room. Additionally we were able to ‘cut out’ a slice of the roof in the existing kitchen area to provide a stunning dining space flooded with light. As this is a rural property we used a more agricultural material palette with larch cladding and metal gutters. The end result is a fabulous extension providing a light and spacious kitchen, dining and living area with clear and distinct zones but open-plan and social - perfect for modern family living.

Fantastic service and design, Mitch took the time to not only find out what we wanted but suggested ideas that we had not even thought about. The end result is a fantastic space that we never even dreamed was possible in our old cottage.
